Traveling with a Pet
Small, domesticated cats, dogs and birds that will fit in an approved carrier under the seat are accepted. Effective March 1, 2012, AirTran will no longer accept birds for travel on any flight.
The pet kennel is limited to maximum dimensions of 8.5" high x 17" long x 12" wide.
The carrier must be leak proof and ventilated on at least two sides.
There is no weight restriction on pets.
The pet must remain in the carrier and under the seat for the duration of the flight.
The pet carrier counts as either a passenger's one (1) carry-on bag or personal item.

Airfare for a pet is USD 69 one-way and is non-refundable. Six (6) pets are allowed per flight with a limit of one (1) pet per paying customer traveling on the same flight. Effective April 10, 2012, airfare for a pet will change to USD 75 each way per pet carrier.
As limited space is available, advanced reservations must be made. Of course, service animals (e.g., Seeing Eye dogs) are always welcome onboard regardless of the number of pets already booked on the flight.
Customers traveling with birds to San Juan, Puerto Rico
Customers traveling with birds to San Juan, Puerto Rico must present required documentation - a certificate and a permit. Effective March 1, 2012, AirTran will no longer accept birds for travel on any flight.
Certificate - The certificate must be issued by a veterinarian within 30 days of travel
Permit - The permit is granted by the Department of Agriculture in Puerto Rico. Request a permit by telephone at 787-796-1650 or 787-796-1835.
International Travel
AirTran Airways does not allow pets to travel on International flights.

In many airports, AirTran Airways sells pet kennels for a nominal fee at the ticket counter. AirTran Airways does not transport pets as checked baggage.
Service Animals
AirTran Airways welcomes service animals trained to assist our passengers with disabilities. A service animal may accompany the passenger in the cabin, provided the animal can be accommodated without blocking an aisle or other area used for emergency evacuation. There is no fee for service animals used by passengers with disabilities. Please note, some destinations may have quarantine laws that prohibit or restrict entry of these animals. Your reservation agent or travel agent can help you check regulations for your destination.
If making your flight reservation through one of our reservation centers, please advise the Crew Member booking your travel of any request(s) you may have for assistance. When booking online, after receiving confirmation, please call one of our reservations Crew Members, provide your confirmation number and advise the type of assistance you are requesting. You are not required to advise us of any special needs you may have prior to travel. However, it is beneficial, as your request(s) can then be more readily accommodated. We welcome advance notice if the passenger will be traveling with a service animal.
